Hi, I am Mark and I just love photographing, photographing people, and in particular photographing people in love...
Marriage rocks !! My wife Miranda and I will be celebrating our 13th year of marriage this year and I've got to say it just gets better and better.. 2010 was a great year for us as we were blessed with the arrival of our first baby, Indigo Grace (she's the little munchkin in the photo). Life has turned upside down and I’m completely loving it !!
My Photography philosophy
I had wondered how honest I should be when writing about myself, about motivations etc, but then how can you be anything but honest.
This is me, this is what makes me tick..
It was never my intention to become a photographer.
I thought my fate was sealed working as a techie geek in the big city.
But the bright lights and money only held me for so long, and I soon became bored and restless. I realised I had a creativity which needed expression and thankfully I found my creative outlet when I picked up my first 'proper' camera and discovered how much I love to take photographs!
It was the day my life changed forever.
The thrill as a photographer is when you realise you have 'the shot'.
In smoke filled newsrooms in days gone by this shot would be called the money shot, it's the photo which not only encapsulates exactly what you set out to get but surpasses it by some measure.
This 'shot' isn't always apparent from the back of the camera, it can sometimes take some gentle coaxing in Photoshop, but when you look at it, you know.
It's strange, but these photo’s transport you, they crystallise your thinking, they kind of stop time…just for a moment...and it's in that moment the magic happens.
I have a particular love of photographing weddings. There's always incredible beauty in a wedding day, when two people come together, surrounded by their family and friends, to publicly show their love, there are so many opportunities to take great photos, all I have to do is be there. It's history in the making.
So am I an image maker, am I a photo journalist, am I an artist…nah, I'm just a photographer.
